Order the Fear of Unemployment to Sit Down

There are heaps of advices on the internet telling you to be the smiling prince or Cinderella when you’ve just lost a job, by thinking POSITIVELY.  Let me tell you , when unemployment seeps in life,  nothing stays positive, all one desires is to tear the curtain of worldly affairs & run at his/her full speed to hide inside the most loneliest spot on earth.

“How can one even think of enjoying pizzas and burgers when submerged from head to toe in debts? How can one think of wearing designer brands and go for long drives when the entire day passes searching for a single lucrative job ad? How can one dream of celebrating family members’ birthdays when pockets are empty as an old pot? How can one re-build the inner confidence when everywhere he can see huge billboards of “REJECTION”? And then people talk of smiling during the phase of unemployment! “

The worst part of this entire failure tale is the fear that clings to your bones and brains throughout the span of job hunt. It gives you nervousness fits before you knock another door for an interview. Adrenaline pumps like anything and sweat beads sparkle on forehead just because you have fear of getting rejected once again. For me a person’s inabilities and lack of skills are more small pythons than this word FEAR. It is like a soap that washes away all your talent and self confidence.

Many people often question with grim expressions: how do I overcome this fear?

For me, doing exercise early morning, partying with friends and socializing like a mad man would not completely eradicate this snake from an individual’s soul. One needs to act more smartly in such situations. The only thing that would serve as your confidence saving parachute is your “brain”. No human being on this earth can snatch away the power of your brain from you.

In such times of sheer agony so many of you would make imaginative webs of commencing your own business, do not consider it a foolishness resulting from mental stress. Who knows you might end up finding a diamond from the rubbish can. If your brain compels you to try executing for once ‘your childhood dream’ do not discard the notion. It is at times better to set a new track instead of following the pied piper lead.
Fighting Unemployment
Fighting Unemployment: Stockvault

DO NOT CHOOSE ISOLATION!!! :

What else really matters is maintaining relationships with friends and family. Most of the times people enclose themselves in igloos of isolation when such financial turmoil occurs, THAT IS COMPLETELY INCORRECT! You need to spit the flavor of negativity that rises like steam inside your structure. That does not by any chance mean you get into fights with your spouse or bellow wildly over kids but a TALK will be wonderful enough.  If you don’t do that you will become a pendulum swinging in and out of depression phases. Take for instance a small situation. You are in dark room, where all you can see is darkness and all you can hear is rasping of your own breathe, out of nowhere an evil face pops in front of you. What would you do, stay still and smile at the monster?  Noooooo! You will shout till your lungs explode. This is fear coming out in the form of voice. If you don’t do that your heart will stop beating and you will fall dead on the floor! So you need to take it out, just try, words will spill out eventually.

Emotions + intelligence= weapon to fight rejection:

Then comes the worst part: rejection! I know how painful it is to drag feet along the busy alleys of a big office to search for the exit. With slumped shoulders, suppressed anger and one more stamp of disappointment, the academic and experience file in hand weighs a billion tons. At this point of time you feel like a worthless penny that can’t even buy the lowest quality candy in exchange. Here your mind power is needed the most. Also known as EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, this fusion of brain and raw emotions will drag you out of this phase of hurt ‘self confidence’. What you need to do in these times is hit a FLASH BACK. Go home, empty all your closets, and search for your tiny achievements. You might have received a silver or gold medal in grade two or three for winning a race. A teacher gave you a souvenir for being the best performer of the month. You won a tournament for your school, college or university. Your kid gave you a card for being the best MOM/DAD of the world. Let the nostalgia of happiness sink in your soul and relish the feeling of self elevation. These events and their essence will water your wilting hopes and you will undoubtedly feel a new wave of enthusiasm wash over your inner self.

YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE TO BE DEALING WITH THIS MESS:

When we fall in such troubles, we blame nature for throwing hardships on our way only and the entire world seems to be enjoying the ride meanwhile. That is not the case; people wear masks that conceal their inner pains and sufferings. The best advice is that you buy one for yourself as well.

Once you have worked in the garage of self-repairing pick up the tools to build a pile of contacts and connections. This is not a method to combat fear but even when you are unemployed your network will throw at you one or more opportunity time to time. It is not necessary that you get a straight hit to the position of a CEO or top manager but trivial opportunities shall also be considered a blessing.

Finally I believe what really is important in the achievement of all these objectives is FAITH- have faith that life is an uneven path for everyone. Nobody gets food in a platter without striving for it. So the norm is valid for you as well, things will change; you just need to prevent yourself from a deadly fall and keep moving on …

5 Tips to Become and Efficient Human Resources Manager

The world of business today is moving with such rapidity that multiple industries are constantly taking innovative strategies to score high in terms of work efficiency. One such efficient strategy that companies adopt out of necessity for better productivity is hiring Human Resource managers.
Administering the overall strategy of company assets is one of the key responsibilities of an HR manager. Right from training employees, controlling employee costs to bringing new hires from abroad, a human resource manager possesses the ability to identify new efficient ways that can meet his/her organization goals. Moreover, the Bureau for Labor Statistics has predicted that the demand for hiring HR professionals in top-notch organizations will go high by 22% by the year 2018.
Well, reality says that justifying the role of a human resource manager is not a child’s play. If you really want to ensure success in this profession, you need to keep a few things in mind. So, here are 5 tips that will help you become an efficient Human Resource manager:
Businessman: Stockvault
1.    Strengthen your business knowledge – A business organisation is bound to face challenging times at anytime of the year. So, if you can gather extensive knowledge in business, it will be easier for you to enhance your contribution to your partners. In fact, you will acquire a thorough understanding of your business which in turn would help you meet the organisational goals.
2.    Develop your networks through social media – If you want to succeed as a human resource professional, try expanding your network with social media as much as possible. In fact, it would be easier for an HR manager to identify the most talented candidates to be hired for the organization. Over the years, social networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook have brought exceptional results in enhancing one’s professional network. So, an HR professional can simply create a profile and keep networking regularly.

3.    Communicate with your employees – To become a successful human resource manager, what is important is possessing communication skills. It’s only through communication that HR mangers will be able to identify the values and objectives of their organisation. In fact, this is counted among one of their key responsibilities in managing an organization.
4.    Improve your skills & grow your thinking – While working in an organisation, HR managers will have to work in such a manner that they will be distinguished as the real strategic partners for their concerned employers. Therefore, possessing high thinking abilities is necessary for HR managers who would then only remain in their employers’ good books.
5.    Gather necessary knowledge in HR management – Without obtaining proper knowledge in HR management, it would not be easy for you to justify the above mentioned points. Graduates usually opt for MBA in HR management with the intention to later qualify for managerial positions, while working professionals enroll in online courses. In fact, the one who has an online degree in HR management usually remains exposed to high career prospects among potential employers.

Make the Most Out of Your Career with SAP Certification

SAP is a technology that is high on demand and has helped professionals belonging to any sector or industry to shape up their career and move to the higher positions. Therefore, I will not be wrong if I say that it is one of the careers where more and more job options are available.

What is SAP?

SAP stands for Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing, which was developed by five German engineers in 1972. You can understand the popularity of SAP by the fact that out of 10, 9 Fortune 500 corporations are extensively using SAP.

SAP has become an important part of the ERP market and this is the reason why the demand for SAP consultants has gone up considerably. SAP has "franchised" function implementation and maintenance of customer facilities. To ensure the quality of this model, SAP establishes approvals of both consulting firms and professionals. It certifies professionals in each of their specialties, and business consulting projects according to their scores and the percentage of the professionals who are certified. In short, to enter the SAP job market through the front door, the candidate must be certified in one of the SAP specialties.

SAP Certification Programs

Some of the most popular SAP certification programs are:

·       SAP Business One
·       SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM)
·       SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP)
·       SAP Industry Solutions
·       SAP Product Lifecycle Management – PLM
·       SAP Solution Manager
·       SAP Supply Chain Management – SCM

To get started in the world SAP consultant, there are two options when it comes to take up SAP courses:

·       Get trained in a module, which is perhaps the closest to your academic knowledge and certifies you for a job in any consultancy. You can get started in the early years as you grow up as a SAP consultant. After this period, and depending on the opportunities of the projects in which you are already working, you can expand your knowledge in some other related module. With additional training, such as project management, you could reach senior levels where you will be given more responsibilities.

·       Develop a more comprehensive training of the SAP professional world. Learn the core modules that make up the "core" of any company, get certified in the module that is also the "core" of the SAP solution, and know the methodology of SAP projects, which has important specificities compared to traditional IT project methodology. Finally gain some experience in the implementation of SAP solutions with the Business Blueprint methodology before starting the journey in the labor market.

The first option can develop while being in the academia or in the SAP itself. The second responds to a graduate or master in SAP Consulting, which is usually taught by any institute specializing in the field of Project Management. This option requires little investment and return is short, but has very limited chances of promotion with medium and little future projection.

Obviously, the second option gives you many more opportunities in the labor market and helps you to qualify for higher responsibilities. It is a commitment to ROI in the medium term but much higher profitability for the assessment of the profile in the labor market. The output profile is junior / senior experienced allowing very rapid progression to senior positions.

By gaining SAP certification, you can be assured of a whole slew of opportunities even during the economic crisis. You can get started as an employee or as a SAP consultant. In today's cutthroat competition, those who hold the SAP certification, certainly have an added advantage over their peers.

5 Career Advancements Tips That Will Change Your Life

“Climbing to the top demands strength, whether it is to the top of Mount Everest or to the top of your career”, quite a well-said quote by Abdul Kalam that teaches us why we should care about career growth or advancement.

Advancement of career is a necessity these days in order to cope with the current feds whilst making sure that you get the pay and respect that you deserve. People, who don’t care about boosting their career, always end up getting the same kind of treatment or salary as they were 5 years ago. This is the reason more and more people are now concerned about how they should go about improving their career.

Though internet is brimming with plentiful tips on how you can advance your career, there are still certain things that you won’t find anywhere but have to realize it on your own. For instance, you have to admit that competition exists regardless of which industry you are working in. If you acknowledge the competition, you’ll be able to plan your career accordingly and set realistic goals that’ll help you mold your future the way you desire.

To help you get started, let us present some common yet effective career advancement tips that’ll surely give you the confidence to take the first step towards a better future.

Believe Firmly in Yourself

Career growth starts with having confidence in yourself and your skills. Unless you have a firm believe in what you can do or accomplish through your skills and expertise, you can’t expect to advance your professional growth, let alone maximize your true potential. However, it doesn’t mean that you may follow the path of arrogance. Understand that one is not capable of achieving success without the help or support of others.

Expand Your Skills and Expertise

Always seek opportunities to train and build more skills instead of sitting idle or someone to give you a push. Realize where you lack most and what you can do to overcome it. Join some communities or forums and learn how people in your industry are gaining more skills and how they are implementing them in their current job. Keep in mind that the corporate world is evolving constantly. Therefore, you also need to evolve your expertise to cope with it.

Feel No Shy to Learn From Others

It is undeniable that gurus are always proved highly resourceful when it comes to learning and growth. Learning is essential and it should be continued throughout your life to expand your expertise. Therefore, never feel shy in learning from others no matter if they are your senior or junior. Always be open to other’s suggestions or opinions. Just appreciate that they are sharing something valuable with you.

Seek Hidden Opportunities

Seek opportunities that others are missing and avail them immediately. Free yourself from the shackles of conventional way of thinking. Think differently from others and only then you’ll be able to identify the golden opportunities that others aren’t seeking.

Never Shun Risks

If you want to fly higher than the rest of the others then you shouldn’t be afraid of taking higher flights. Expand your wings, set your tail and take the flight to the ceaseless sky of success. Adapt to say yes to tasks that are challenging because behind that challenge awaits guaranteed success. If you don’t take risk and feel afraid of tackling the challenge, you won’t be able to see or let alone experience the success.

Employ all the above-listed tips in your career development plan and work on them at your own pace to ensure a bright future and a profitable job.

About Careers in Sales Management

The ideal sales managers are multi-taskers who not only oversee the work of the sales team, but also strategize, create agendas and train other members of the team. Sales managers spend majority of their time managing customer complaints and must be trained well to be diplomatic to keep everyone happy. If you are seeking to build a career as a sales manager, you must be willing to roll up your sleeves and work hard to achieve success. The following article will familiarize you with careers in sales management and what it takes to be a sales manager.

About Sales Management
Sales jobs can be found in several industries, including telecommunications, property management, pharmaceuticals and agribusiness. Even though the underlying aim of the job is to sell a product, be it a house, software or medicine; the job of a sales manager requires you to identify the client’s requirements and have the power to anticipate the demand.
You also need to stay updated on the latest innovations and technologies, be able to communicate well and must know how to ask probing questions. This way you can truly analyze a customer’s needs.

To begin with you can start working as an outside sales representative, where you will also get commission and bonuses. Sales professionals eventually get used to receiving fluctuating income as sales jobs offer a lesser base salary but give high commission on percent basis of the deal you strike. With commissions, sales professionals earn significantly and earn a huge sum total.

However, all this comes at a later stage when you excel in this field and can manage to make sales. Apart from having eyes for the market trends, sales executives need to beat the competition and stay on top of their game with the help of technical knowledge. So when you land a sales job as a fresher, make sure you receive the proper training and are
introduced to the technology you will be working with, especially if you are not very techno-savvy.

Education for Sales Management

While courses and degrees give you detailed insights into sales theories, one certainly needs practical experience along with a desire to learn, to outdo competition and anticipate the needs of a client. However, venturing into this field without a major degree in marketing and business would prevent your career from getting a good head-start. An MBA degree would be the ideal qualification for a sales manager.

Sales As a Career Choice

If you think sales management is the right field for you, brace yourself to sweat it out. This realm is partly about your personality and while applying for a job the recruiters will assess you on certain case scenarios. So prepare through role-playing and personality tests for the entry level jobs in sales.

The Necessary Personality Traits

Sales managers must be the problem-solvers in a team. They should also look after the setting of goals, meeting them and also exceeding them. It is important for them to have competition in their field or region, so that they go beyond their capabilities to bring out the best.

Among the many hats that a sales manager wears, he also has to turn into a coach and motivator. All good sales managers have to dedicate time to build and develop their team. They have to take time out to interact with subordinates and recognize every individual's capabilities and shortcomings. Sales managers also need to motivate their team to perform well and come up with new solutions.

Planning and Delivering

Not being able to devise a sales strategy is considered a serious failure for a sales manager. Coming up with new plans for the development and sale of a product is the most crucial skill. The best manager chalks out a plan that will clearly set out goals and actions that connect to the business' goals and needs of the end user. They then have to things happen by making the best individual responsible for a particular task.

Scheduling regular meetings may help to track a specific strategy but as a manager it would be your responsibility to ensure that these meetings are not perceived as a waste of time by the others. Use them well as valuable opportunities to highlight issues and major concerns. At the end of the meeting, you must come up with some solutions and offer quick coaching or learning sessions.

A large number of managers shy away from training sessions as they are afraid of the team's reactions. If conducted well, the training can create a healthy climate for constant learning and development, strengthen key skills that help finalize deals and guarantee accomplishment of organizational as well as personal goals.

Tips for Students Landing a First Job

While it's no secret the job market is extremely competitive, especially for recent college graduates, there are a number ways in which you can drastically increase the chances of landing your dream entry-level job. By blending sheer ambition and determination coupled with my secret sauce, I'm confident you'll have the necessary tools and tricks to be well on your way.

Social Media

We live in a digital world. The notion of individual, digital brand health (IDBH) is more important than ever before; a simple resume and cover letter won't cut it any longer. The purpose of a resume is to offer up a concise self-marketing tool. The word concise is the key here. Resumes should be no longer than one page, must look aesthetically pleasing to the eye and require font large enough that the reader does not need to strain. All the in all, you get the point; your resume cannot possibly fit your entire life story and all your "unique" experiences that go along with it. The good news, professionally focused social media platforms like Google +, Linkedin and About.Me give you the opportunity to efficiently and effectively promote yourself without  bounds. If you're going to utilize social media, transform yourself into an active contributor; get noticed and earn the respect of others.

While you're most likely familiar with G+ and Linkedin, About.Me is a wonderful free, self-marketing tool I highly recommend you take advantage of. With it, you have the ability to custom tailor your professional profile in the blink of an eye. Include your custom link on your resume and I guarantee employers will be impressed. G + is trending upwards and will become increasingly popular in the years to come. If you have not created a G + profile just yet, don't procrastinate, get it done. Be sure to have the theme "professional" planted in your mind when creating and optimizing your social media profiles.  In my opinion, Facebook is all about social...not professional. Be sure to maintain strict privacy settings, only accept friend requests from people you know and do your best to unfriend people you are no longer close with. Doing the following will decrease the chances an employer will be able to successfully locate and view your profile. One of the simplest and most popular tricks is to alter the spelling of your name so it's more or less unsearchable.
Man Looking through Binoculars

Linkedin, simply put, is the epitome of professional networking in the Information Age. If you're going to be successful at networking, you must invest substantial time and resources into your digital presence. Complete your profile, connect with everyone you know and learn how to manage and communicate efficiently via the Linkedin network. For those actively seeking employment opportunities, Linkedin has a special members called the "Job Seeker." For only $29.95 per month, your membership comes will a wide range of perks which include 5 InMails/month, optimized profile placement, a job seeker icon badge and a number of introductions among other benefits. I highly recommend it.

Slowly but surely, students are beginning to create Linkedin profiles at earlier life stages. Such trends are forcing social networks to alter their policies. As a matter of fact, effective on September 12, 2013, Linkedin's updated User Agreement and Privacy Policy decreased the minimum age for a Linkedin user to 14 years of age in the United States.

Professional Networking Offline

There are just as many networking opportunities offline as there are online; the downside, real world opportunities take up substantial time and resources ultimately requiring much more from the individual. The good news, if you're willing to put in the effort, in-person networking can be extremely effective. A quick piece of advice, if you're ever conversing with someone you'd like to get to know, be sure to ask for their business card. Within a few days after, add them on Linkedin and remind them where and when you met in addition to a very brief summary of the discussion that took place. Doing so will ensure they accept your invitation to connect and you won't have to worry about misplacing their card or keeping it at all for that matter.

There are a number of niche-based networking groups focused on facilitating introductions among like-minded people. One of the more notable networks is Meetup.com which specializes in local meetups. If you live in a well populated area, there is a good chance you'll find a meetup near you. For those looking to enter the workforce, pay special attention to groups that are focused on business networking or information sessions on topics you're interested in and be sure to attend; you'll be surprised at both the quality and caliber of the people you will meet. When I first moved to Dallas, Texas, I joined groups such as Linking Together DFW North Dallas and Texas Young Professionals in addition to countless others. Many of the more influential connections I've made have been through these type of groups. A number of organizations and associations exist solely for the purpose of networking; don't be afraid to reach out to them.

Explore upcoming events:

1.     Chamber of Commerce
2.     Conventions
3.     Speaker Series at Local Colleges and Universities
4.     Local Conferences, Mixers and Hiring Events

Just about every college graduate has access to one of the most powerful networks of all; the alumni network. If you have not done so already, be sure to explore your alumni database and locate the individuals you're most interested in meeting. Be sure to reach out and don't be afraid of rejection. More likely than not, if an alumni can't help you, they will do their best to put you in touch with someone who can.

In the end, securing employment will be stressful, time consuming and at times, frustrating. With that said, be sure to exploit your age, it's an irreplaceable asset that will surely depreciate over time. From my experience, more experienced professionals are more eager and willing to help out younger inexperienced individuals because they pose little threat in the short-term. If you're going to reach out, be sure to do so by phone and leave brief, but detailed message if you are unable to reach anyone; follow up with an email.

Top 3 Marketing Consulting Positions for 2013

As a marketing consultant you have a unique skill set. You aren’t tied to a specific position. One moment you could be advising a department on their advertisements. The next you could be taking control of a full marketing campaign and guiding it to success. Most consultants prefer to settle into different roles and focus on those instead.

In 2013, some marketing consultant positions have stood out more than most. These are the three positions which are lucrative and are expected to grow over the next 12 months.

Advertising Sales Representative

The advertising sales representative is a third-party worker. He acts on behalf of companies and other marketers. He maintains the accounts and helps with positioning messages in the most effective ways. To qualify for this position, you’ll need an extensive knowledge of market placement. Usually, you’ll focus on specific industries, so it’s handy to have unique insider knowledge of certain disciplines.

The Marketing Manager

The marketing manager might have a variety of different titles, including the Director of Marketing. This is a self-explanatory position. Market Research Analyst

To an extent, every person in marketing needs to know how to dissect data. You need to know about the habits of customers so you can tailor your campaign according to their needs. The market research analyst is the person who delves deep into these figures. You’ll normally find them being used in larger companies with separate marketing departments.

The research analyst must initially gather the information and make sure it’s reliable. They need to take this data and spot trends. You’ll need an analytical mind to succeed in this job. Huge growth is predicted with the industry increasing by almost 50 per cent in the next 12 months.

Market research analysts can expect to earn $60,000 per annum on average.

Company Requirements

Remember these skills are only basic descriptions. They don’t take into account the specific skills and attributes required by companies themselves. Carefully research what local companies in your area are looking for in marketing consultants first. The general skills might not be enough.

Many companies will actively look for marketing consultants with experience in their line of work. For example, if you have fashion experience you will have more success if you decide to work with companies involved in retail, clothing, or fashion.

Michelle Patterson is very familiar with the marketing industry as she has worked with companies like http://www.ds-peterboroughweb.co.uk/ throughout her career. She believes it’s important for marketing consultants to diversify and keep updated on current industry trends.

Expanding Your Horizons and Experiences for College

There are many ways you can prepare for college. However, the best piece of advice anyone can give you is to expand your horizons while you're still in high school. You give your college applications a boost by participating extracurricular activities, including world travel, volunteering and internships. Recruiters love applicants who have firsthand knowledge, life experiences and a resume filled with responsible activities.

Travel

International travel can make a world of difference on your college application. World travel helps you gain knowledge of other cultures and languages. This knowledge cannot be taught in a classroom and can only be learned through getting that stamp on your passport. World travel shows you're willing to step out of your comfort zone, that you're curious and that you have the initiative to experience new things.

If you want to take your overseas experience to the next level, volunteer abroad. Turning your world travel into a volunteering experience will further expand your appreciation of new cultures and will have college recruiters putting your application at the top of the pile.

Volunteering

A recent addition to high school curriculums is the requirement that students complete a certain amount of volunteer hours. Not all high schools require it, but it's becoming common for students to dedicate some volunteer hours. Volunteering in the community or overseas can help you gain knowledge and experience that shows college recruiters you are a go-getter. There are many different
types of volunteer opportunities you can sign up for while still in high school, including summer camps, local sports programs, animal shelters and overseas training programs.

Internships

Having work experience through an internship will give you a boost in the competitive race to college acceptance. By working as an intern, you'll be able to put your classroom knowledge to work while gaining work experience in your desired field of study. High school internships are available in a variety of job fields, including communications, education, electronics, engineering and nursing. Many times, your high school will be able to help you find internship opportunities. They may even have internship programs already established with local businesses. Not only does the internship look good on your college application, you'll also be able to decide before entering college if it's the right career path for you. Plus, you already have your foot in the door and have great work references for when you do graduate college.

College recruiters look for well-rounded students with more than just classroom knowledge. Getting a little bit of each of these extracurricular activities may help you get the edge you need. Sit down and talk with your guidance counselor to discuss the different ways you can participate in these activities and find out which ones are best suited for you. Get involved wherever you can. Life experiences are just as important as a solid education. Achieving both before entering college is something that will stick with you for the rest of your life. In addition to the impressive achievements you'll list on your college applications, you'll have the benefit of doing good work.

Joining the Peace Corps After Graduation

The Peace Corps can seem like an excellent option for some graduates, and it can be, but whether or not it is the best move for the new graduate depends on a number of factors. There are a few important questions you must consider carefully before making a decision to join the Peace Corps.
Are You Planning to Go into Development Work or Another International Career?
For people planning to join the Foreign Service or do development work, experience as a Peace Corps volunteer will be invaluable. It is an excellent opportunity to get a look at the pros and cons of both development work and the experience of being a representative of the United States in a foreign country. Peace Corps experience can put you on a fast track for a number of government positions including in the Foreign Service, and if you’re interested in development work you can make significant contacts. The foreign language learned as a Peace Corps volunteer may be a benefit as well.
Do You Have Significant Debts or Financial Obligations (Other than Student Loans)?
Many types of student loans can be deferred or forgiven for Peace Corps volunteers, but it's important to look into this ahead of time. For other types of debt, such as credit card debt, the Peace Corps stipend will not be sufficient to cover debt payments. In fact, it will only pay for maintenance in the foreign country. You need to be realistic about your financial situation before making the decision.
Are You in a Serious Relationship, or Do You Have Family Obligations?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, that doesn't automatically mean that the Peace Corps is out. It simply means that joining should be considered more carefully. Total commitment is important for Peace Corps volunteers. A community will be depending upon the you, and if there is a situation at home that makes you more likely to leave early, it may be necessary to reconsider the Peace Corps. Of course, some people do complete Peace Corps terms of service successfully with a significant other at home, and you should weigh your family obligations against your future goals.
Should You Get Some Work Experience First?
For both the good of the program itself and the individual, it may be better to get two or three years of work experience before joining the Peace Corps. A teacher with a few years in the classroom or an agricultural adviser who has worked with a local extension office in the United States may be more effective than a volunteer fresh out of college. There may also be benefits on both sides; a volunteer may get more out of the experience by having more to offer.
Are You Prepared for the Living Conditions?
As with the question about loved ones, if the answer to this question is "maybe not," that's not an automatic disqualifier. Part of becoming a Peace Corps volunteer is adapting to situations that you might find uncomfortable or alien. However, you should be prepared for the fact that living conditions are likely to be significantly different from what you are accustomed to.
The Peace Corps can be a life-changing experience for both the volunteer and those with whom the volunteer works. However, it can also be difficult and disappointing. If you are thinking about becoming a volunteers, carefully weigh the pros and cons and consider them against your present life situations and future plans to make a fully informed decision.

How To Write Your College RÉSUMÉ & COVER LETTER

Resume Development
Whatever your job goal may be, your résumé is the crucial factor for the hiring process.
What is a résumé’s purpose? A resume simply describe your education, work experience, skills, and other important achievements that distinguish you from the crowd of applicants. Developing a nifty résumé is easy in terms of getting your information on the paper. What most people have difficulty in doing, however, is how much information to include:
1.     Too much, and you have lost your future-employer’s attention and will to read your long, meticulous résumé.
2.     Too succinct, and you will come across as a simplistic inexperience college grad who solely has textbook know-how.
3.     Just right, like the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, having enough to make your point and eliminating the unimportant details like “I was a four year karate champion for Ernie Reyes during high school” is what résumé’s turns out to be. Sure, your karate connoisseurship was hard-earned and definitely prestigious, but if you’re applying to a summer research internship with the National Institute of Health, your roundhouse skills are of less importance.

Generally, for most college grads, a two page résumé should be the limit. Keep the formatting consistent, simple, yet attractive to the reader. Here are some unique tips:

1.     List coursework that matters to the job you are applying to!
2.     When describing skills, do not just write, “Able to use analytical and problem-solving techniques.” Instead, briefly describe a situation where you had to use these skills and quantify them: “Teacher Assistant for General Chemistry Labs: develop and implement novel labs for students”
3.     Don’t focus on the numbers of activities/events in your life. Focus on quality. Take the time to write short descriptive phases under each volunteer position you held and describe what skills or leadership assets you developed.
4.     Mention foreign language fluency: surprisingly, this can make or break your job application for corporate companies and government agencies that require international communications or domestic immigrant language problems.
5.     Specify your “Objective” line if you use one, rather using the something vague that says, “I just want a job to make a living.”
6.     CHECK SPELLING AND GRAMMAR. Even the minor mistake can jeopardize your eligibility and accountability for any job you are applying to.
7.     Have someone else read your résumé. Like your college essay applications, having others read your résumé offers an important perspective that may undermine problems that you neglected to see.
8.     Begins phrases with action verbs such as “developed,” “initiated,” etc.
Not “I initiated the XYZ fundraiser,” just “initiated the XYZ fundraiser.”
9.     Be truthful about your accomplishments. Just do it. Regardless of where you are applying, being hired for your actual abilities and achievements is much more self-rewarding than lying and deceitfully getting a job (plus, there’s no risk of getting caught).
10.  If you are a college graduate with only “textbook experience” don’t elaborate to the two-page limit. Keep it one page. Let your employers know that you are newbie—sometimes, that is the best way to go.

Cover Letter

The cover letter was originally meant for high-density applicant jobs. For example IT positions in corporations usually have more than 30-40 applicants for one job, all of the applicants have excellent college backgrounds, most have professional experience beyond you, most are old and instrumental beings in the IT business world. Employers do not want to read 40 résumés for a single job opening; they read your cover letter. Literally about two paragraphs worth of information professionally pleading for someone to review your résumé—you have to sell yourself in the cover letter.

As a college student, always send a cover letter regardless the “density of applicants” because it shows that you really care about working with that specific company. The cover letter is your opportunity to explain special circumstances (family economic history, passion in the sciences, etc.) and other information you could not normally mention or elaborate on in the résumé. Some tips:
1.     Write an original cover letter for every job you apply to and tailor it according to the employer’s/job requirements and how those uniquely align with your passion
2.     State in the first sentence why you are applying.
3.     Demonstrate originality and enthusiasm.
4.     No more than 1 page.
5.     Make points short and sweet.
6.     Match job requirements to previous history of experience (i.e. accounting and finance requirements can be met with previous work at Investment Management Group with Wells Fargo). Make a list like this.
7.     Show that you have done your “homework” and read about the company its mission goal.

The résumé is going to be essential throughout your life as an adult. It is best to start off now and keep honing and improving it regardless of whether you are applying for a job or not. If your cover letter hooks them in, average employers spend only 10 seconds looking at a résumé and finding something interesting. Crafting a résumé and cover letter becomes easier and more rewarding as you gain experience.
